This visa allows you to work for any employer in New Zealand.

To be eligible for a Post Study Work Visa, you must

  • have completed the qualification for which the Student Visa was granted
  • demonstrate you are a bona fide applicant
  • meet health and character requirements
  • show proof of funds (NZD 5000) 

An application for Post Study Work Visa must be made within 3 months after the expiry of your Student Visa, or within 6 months if you were granted a visa to complete a doctorate. This visa does not require an offer of employment and can be applied only once. 

Duration for which visa is granted 

  • If you have completed a New Zealand qualification at level 9 or 10, you may be granted a visa for up to 3 years. 
  • If you have completed a qualification at level 8 or below, the duration of your visa will then be the same as the duration of your full-time study.
  • Students undertaking a qualification at Level 7 and below (excluding bachelor’s degrees) will only be eligible for post-study work rights if the qualification is relevant to an occupation on the Green List. This includes Graduate Diplomas and Diplomas at level 7.

If you take longer to complete your study than what is mentioned in your offer letter, this will not extend your visa duration.

Your Post Study Work Visa allows you to support either a Work Visa for your partner, a Visitor Visa for your partner or children, and a Student Visa for your children in New Zealand. These visas will expire simultaneously with your Work Visa, ensuring your family can stay together throughout your stay in New Zealand.
